Peeling up the old stripes is first step. Peel only one section at a time. Use the old stripes as guides for the new. A heat gun, adhesive remover, or even turpentine can help. Test any solvents on an inconspicuous spot first, before you go chasing good money away with bad news. |

Use a clean rag and a bit of naptha, denatured alcohol, or good ol' lacquer thinner to clean up any residue. Again, always test solvents first. |

Test fit the first section. Get a pal to help for long bits. Remove the backing paper on the vinyl. This is the side that will be applied to the body. |

Soak entire panel in clean soapy water. Do NOT soak the stripe in soapy water. We used the old striping as a guide, and matched as we went. |

The water will allow the section to slide around for alignment. Slippery when wet, as it were. A little window cleaner can keep things slippery longer, and help prevent bubbles. |

Once everything is lined up, use a squeegee to force the water and any air bubbles from under the vinyl. Don’t scrimp on the squeegee. A couple bucks' investment at the body shop or paint supply is all it takes. |

Let things set up and dry out. S-l-o-w-l-y peel up the carrier paper. |

Some spots may need to be trimmed. Wait until after things have set up. |
