Before sending parts out for plating, the Doctor made sure everything fit onto the A-833.

Then your parts are sent out of shop for zinc plating and re-chroming in large batches and, with the unique numbers on your shifter, are then placed back together.

As your shifter is rebuilt with new shims, the Doc is also adjusting the feel of the positive shift to eliminate play. This is where your shifter can be set to tighter, firmer tolerances if you are racing it. There’s a big difference in the setup when you are grabbing gears and beating the living crap out of a shifter nearing the finish line.

The Doc is quick to point out that your Hurst Shifter, no matter how you’ve abused it, can be brought back to better than new condition. The shifter you bring in was mass-produced some forty years ago, but here in the Doc’s office today, he spends as much time as required to properly diagnose, adjust and finesse your Hurst shifter, working on quality not quantity. Of the thousands of shifters he’s worked on, so far only one has been returned in three years.

Our shifter needed a new billet mounting block.
After over forty years of use, some shifter parts were worn out. These parts will be replaced in the final assembly.

The cost to you is clearly laid out on the Hurst Shifters webpage and the process, depending on the repairs, will take from four to six weeks. In my case the shifter was from an OEM Mopar A-833 with a long tailshaft. We are installing a short tailshaft tranny and needed a different reverse arm and billet mounting block that the Doc and Hurst Shifters supplied.
