D1GP TO MEET NASCAR FOR DRIFT VS. GRIP DUEL
In an international battle of driver skill and machine prowess the titans of drifting and NASCAR realms will meet for the Mopar D1 All-Star Duel Drift vs. Grip on August 31st at Irwindale Speedway - the “House of Drift”. The exhibition of D1 drifting action will pit eight Nextel Cup headliners against eight D1 drift champions. Drifting legends Yasuyuki Kazama, Team Mopar pilot Samuel Hubinette, Ken “Monkey Magic” Nomura, Vaughn Gittin Jr., and Rhys Millen will battle Kasey Kahne, Bill Elliot, Robby Gordon, Greg Biffle, and Casey Mears from the NASCAR camp. More drivers will be announced as the duel ramps up. Charger Driver Kasey Kahne is no stranger to driving sideways, and excited about the upcoming event.
"I grew up racing sideways around dirt tracks in an 800 horsepower sprint car. This is going to be a lot different, but I am excited and ready for the challenge," said Kahne, who has four Nextel Cup wins in 2006. "Drifting looks like so much fun, and my NASCAR
buddies are jumping at the opportunity to whip some of these cars around”.
Sam “Crazy Swede” Hubinette is also looking forward to good times at the Irwindale House of Drift on 31st. “It’s definitely going to be fun out there with NASCAR stars like Kasey Kahne. It’s really cool to see they’re interested in our sport and they want to try it out”, said Hubinette.
Drifting and NASCAR fans alike will have the opportunity to witness this historic event, and one lucky fan has the chance to win a trip to the event and a ride along with Sam “The Crazy Swede” Hubinette courtesy of Modified Magazine and ShiftIntoGear.
