Dodge ‘upgrades’ Santa’s sleigh

FCA’s Dodge brand has launched “Jolly Fast Man,” a seven-part social series campaign across its digital and social channels.

The series focuses on overhauling Santa’s sleigh—the Redeye Express, and has launched on the brand’s YouTube channel, with content running across Dodge Facebook, Twitter and Instagram channels during December.

The series features Bill Goldberg (professional athlete, NFL player, pro wrestler and automobile aficionado) as Santa and “All Girls Garage” host and automotive enthusiast Cristy Lee as Mrs. Claus.

The social series takes viewers behind the scenes of the “rebuild,” where Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves take inspiration from the Dodge brand lineup to put a decidedly Dodge spin on Santa’s classic sleigh, and reveal the reasoning behind many of the sleigh’s new features.

The initiative is an extension of the Dodge brand’s “Big Finish” 30-second campaign spot “Upgrade” in which Santa stares at his centuries-old sleigh and proclaims to his elves, “It’s time for an upgrade!”

All seven 30-second videos can be viewed on the Dodge YouTube channel  [12/21/18]

FCA hires two executives for North America operation

After nearly a decade of developing and renewing its leadership team internally, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has hired a pair of outsiders — including a high-ranking Amazon executive — for leading roles in North America.

FCA CEO Mike Manley named Mark Stewart the region's new COO, a job held at the beginning of this year by CEO Sergio Marchionne before his death in July and then by Manley. Stewart, 51, spent just over a year at Amazon, where he was vice president of operations, managing customer fulfillment across 200 facilities with 180,000 employees. An electrical engineer by background, Stewart was COO for auto supplier ZF TRW after rising through TRW's executive ranks. FCA said Stewart also would become a member of the automaker's Group Executive Council, its highest management decision-making body.

Niel Golightly has been named the company's global chief communications officer. Golightly, 60, was vice president of external relations for the Americas for Shell Oil Co. He previously held other communications roles for Royal Dutch Shell and Ford Motor Co., where he was vice president of public affairs for Ford of Europe. FCA said Golightly also will join the Group Executive Council. Golightly replaces Mike Keegan, who will now be FCA's chief audit, sustainability and compliance officer, replacing Alessandro Baldi, who will retire in the first quarter of 2019.  [11/27/18]

Idled Detroit plant will convert to build Jeeps

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles plans to reopen its long-idled Mack II engine plant in Detroit as an assembly plant to build three-row Jeep SUVs.

Automotive News said FCA plans to build a new three-row version of the Grand Cherokee in the plant for the 2021 model year. It would be the first new assembly plant in Detroit since Chrysler opened up its Jefferson North plant in 1992.

The move will allow FCA to retool Jefferson North for the next-generation Jeep Cherokee without interrupting the flow of its profit-rich SUV to dealerships, the News reported.

FCA has already approved plans to retool its Warren Truck Assembly plant, just north of Detroit, currently making the Ram 1500 Classic, in order to produce Jeep Wagoneers and Grand Wagoneers. FCA idled the Mack II engine plant in 2012.  [12/21/18]
