275 MPH WORLD PRO MOD RECORD!

Eric Dillard drove the Q80 Mustang powered by a turbo charged Chrysler Hemi to a World Record Miles Per Hour record 275.48 at the PSCA Finals during Sunday’s eliminations. He also won the event!

The thirteenth edition of the Street Car Super Nationals ran Nov. 16 – 19 under the direction of promoter par excellence, Mel Roth. The event drew a huge field of High Performance Street Cars enhanced by the recent expansion of the Premier Street Car Association to the St. Louis & Denver markets. Action started right off on Thursday when John Stanley drove the blown 426 Hemi powered Stanley & Weiss Pro Mod car to a very quick 5.75 at 254.65 mph.

Doug Driggers & Bruce McConnell brought their ’46 Dodge Truck out of retirement for its first race of 2017.  The popular PCSA regular from years past did not disappoint as evidenced by the photo above.

The Costa Jones Racing Pro Mod Plymouth Duster was one of 28 cars in the field, and a favorite with MOPAR fans in attendance. At this race Jones tackled the almost Pro Mod Magna Flux Outlaw 10.5.

A big win for the MOPAR brand was this ’70 ‘Cuda’, owned & driven by Manfred Ketterer from Armstrong, British Columbia. He conquered the largest field of the meet with 78 runners answering the first round bell. Runner up in the class went to Brandon Umberger of Bell Ground, Colo. Marching all the way to the semi-final was Mark Beavin who always does well at LVMS.

In the PRO quarter-finals it was all MOPAR as Mark Bevin got a green light vs. the Hemi Duster who could bot catch him after a .003 RT. MOPAR fans should remember ‘The Beav’ which Mark drove to four wins in five years at Phil Painter’s Muscle Cars at The Strip.

Other MOPAR entries in the large PRO field include: Curtis Garceau  of Las Vegas in a ’70 Dodge; Jay Waxler from Fort Mohave in another ’70 Plymouth Duster; Mike Unger of Bellinggham, Wa., in a new ’17 Dodge Hemii Challenger; Skylar McCauley from the host city, North Las Vegas with a ’16 Challenger  and Anthony DeMareo driving a ’67 Dodge Dart.

Hemi Challengers were present too, this one, a 2017 model was driven by Mike Unger from far away Bellingham, Wash.

Triple index found Derrik Greenlhalgh all the way from Rexburg, Id.; San Clemente, Ca. resident Mike Mulder driving a ’62 Valiant; and Mark Beavin’s ’72 Duster.

West Coast Drag Race fans rally around the popular Malicoat Bros. Pro Mod Plymouth Barracuda. They had problems during this race but you can bet they will be in the winner’s column soon.

The race ended on Sunday night after four days of intense qualifying, lots of wheel stands, a couple of day ending miss-haps,  and exciting, close racing. The Las Vegas weather, while not perfect, was better than several past events. It was windy all three days of qualifying, but really nice during the final day on Sunday. Of course when the sun went down, it was cold.

This is just a glimpse at what has to be the biggest Street Car Super Nationals to date. Promoter Mel Roth did a superb job by using the internet message system to spread the word through his loyal  followers. His excellent and experienced crew was on top of everything. The Las Vegas Motor Speedway – Drag Strip crew performed a long , windy & cold service for the race to its conclusion. Both Mel Roth & Jeff Foster must be commended for their smooth management of the event.

Take Care…..
