“I bought the car off of eBay 10 or 12 years ago. It was a “California Car” and I paid less than $5,000 for it,” Larry Jr. said. “It was an all-steel car with a four-speed manual trans and a carbureted 440-inch, wedge motor under the hood."
Over the years the father and son team have heavily modified the Savoy, including the wheelbase, engine, and trans but the body is still all steel. Replacing the gas burning wedge is now a blown and injected alky-burning 572 ci wedge under the hood and attached to it is a (shudder) GM powerglide two-speed automatic trans. It also has had a chrome moly roll cage and chassis.

| The block is a Keith Black solid block with Indy Cylinder Head wedge heads. A 4.500 bore and stroke combination delivers 572 cubic inches. A Callies crank swings a set of R&R rods and dished Arias pistons. Static compression is 11.5-1. The cylinder heads have Manley 2.250 intake and a 1.800 exhaust valves and PBM valve springs. T&D Rocker Arms are actuated by Manley push rods pushed by a Comp Cams “roller” camshaft. A Weaver Bros. pump and dry sump oiling system lubricate the motor with Brad Penn oil. Ignition is by Vertex, with Moroso wires and NGK plugs. A Bowers blower reworked by Mert Littlefield and a 110 Enderle pump feed air and fuel through a period-correct Hilborn fuel pump. | ![]() |
