The car is a piece of functional drag racing history. About the only items in the car that aren’t original 1971 issue are the safety items, and chassis updates required by the NHRA so that the car could be raced, and the ’71 Donovan aluminum Hemi. When Della Woods drove the car she sat behind an iron 426 Hemi .

The chassis is a 1970 Logghe. Missouri chassis builder Ty Baumgartner did the work on the roll cage and the rest of the chassis to make it legal, but he did not alter the original width and wheelbase of the chassis it remains as it was when Della Woods drove it back in 1971. And by the way, it has no front brakes but in a nod to driver safety it has massive Mark Williams disc brakes on the rear.

Not only are the body and chassis almost 100 percent period-correct, but so is the Donovan aluminum Hemi that sits between the pipes. It is a 417 Donovan that now displaces 440 inches via a 4.125 bore and a 3.5-inch billet crank- a safety feature. The aluminum heads are also Donovan. An Enderle “Bugcatcher” hat, 110 fuel pump and a Mert Littlefield 6-71 complete the nostalgia package.

Although Della and Dee burned nitro in the Hemi, now this car it is simply too rare to subject it to the possible damage that comes with burning nitro so John runs the engine on alcohol. They have had the engine on the dyno and it makes just a little over 1100 hp.
