#3 Teuton Wins Indy in Mopar Challenger Drag Pak
Jeff Teuton of Houma, La., captured a historic victory for Mopar at the most historic race on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing schedule, driving his 2009 Mopar Challenger Drag Pak to the overall win in Stock Eliminator at the 57th Annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind. The victory was the first overall Stock Eliminator NHRA National event win for Mopar’s modern-day package car.
Teuton faced the 2002 Camaro of Sam Pourciau in the final round, taking the victory easily with an 11.055-second elapsed time at 107.71 mph after Pourciau’s engine exploded shortly after launch. Teuton also captured his individual class win (F/SA) in Stock Eliminator at the event.
#2 Mopar-Powered Hagan Wins NHRA Funny Car Title
Matt Hagan, a native of Christiansburg, Va., swept the season finale at Pomona to earn the NHRA Funny Car title over his Don Schumacher Racing teammate Jack Beckman.
Hagan was victorious twice in 2011 en route to winning the title, and also became the first Funny Car driver to break the three-second barrier when he posted a 3.995-second run at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte in September.
Hagan, who was named to the First Team of the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) All-America Auto Racing Team, completed the 2011 campaign with a 33-20 round win record, reaching the final in four events.
#1 Four-Time NHRA Pro Stock Champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. Joins Team Mopar for 2012
"In all honesty, I was shocked and honored when I heard the news. Mopar-backed cars won a lot of races and championships in many racing series during 2011, so I'm humbled that they think so highly of what we're doing with the JEGS.com Dodge Avenger," said Coughlin.
The announcement marks a return to the Pro Stock class by Coughlin after a one-year hiatus. It's also a return to the Mopar fold for Coughlin, who has a long history with the brand. Coughlin captured the 2004 U.S. Nationals Mopar HEMI Challenge event win driving a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda, raced a Mopar HEMI-powered Dodge Pro Stock car during the 2005 NHRA season and currently owns and competes in Sportsman events in a Mopar Challenger Drag Pak.
