

Pro Stock was brutal due to great air and track conditions that started on Friday evening; in the end, the bump was a quick 6.717, and several of the Dodges had no luck getting in. However, for fans of the past, two cars made it worth the trip to Claremont over Labor Day to see the factory door slammers – Larry Morgan in a Rod Shop-monikered Dodge, painted in the same scheme that Ronnie Sox had used in 1977 to try and qualify for A/FX in the late Don Carlton’s Colt.

More Pro Stock action had Bob Panella, Jr. in a return to of the Sox & Martin name to drag racing. Buddy Martin, whose Pro Stock Truck frustrations are best left unstated, is stepping back up into NHRA Pro Stock with a red-white-and-blue Stratus. Morgan was in for Monday’s eliminator, while Panella was basically shaking down the brand-new combination, but still ended up only 6/1000s short of getting in. Like I said, brutal…
