The only side by side AA/FC run in the second round was between Monticello, Ill., racer Dunn and St. Louis racer Jacobsmeyer. In that race Dunn's car was about 600 feet down the right lane when the engine backfired through the supercharger, launching Dunn's brand new Mopar body about 40 feet in the air. When the body left the chassis it deployed the chutes.
In the other lane Jacobsmeyer paid no attention and motored to yet another 6.30's lap. This time he ran a 6.361/224.25.
Baker made his single but the Hemi engine just didn't sound as sweet as it did it on the 6.18 first-round win and labored down the track to a 6.81/154.55 pass.
In the final round Jacobsmeyer made his burnout, quickly followed by Baker in Danny Miller’s ‘70 Maverick. Unfortunately, after the burnout Baker couldn't get the trans in reverse and eventually had to just drive down the track leaving Jacobsmeyer to make a single for the title. In true professional form, Jake didn't idle down the track. He legged it to a 6.380/220.01 for the win and the DragRacingOnline.com AA/FC Challenge championship points lead. It should be noted that, according to Jacobsmeyer, who does much of the maintenance on the car himself, the team never had the heads off of the engine all weekend.
The official speed and ET records were set by Jacobsmeyer:
ET Record 6.361, Speed Record 224.25.
[Note: there were plenty of faster laps by almost every racer but the only one that could be backed up by the 2 percent rule was the 217.98 by Jacobsmeyer, whose 216.83 on his only qualifying pass backed up the 217.98.]
The next race in the series is the Goodguys race June 12-14 at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis. We will most certainly have a new series points leader coming out of that race as Jacobsmeyer will not attend that race due to a prior commitment to a match race date at Bruton Smith’s track in Bristol, Tenn.
