Speaking of 1967 Barracudas, how ‘bout this sloppy but solid primer gray Formula S hardtop. Though the small circular Formula S front fender emblems are missing from their place behind the wheel openings, the 273 Commando 4-barrel mill and simulated walnut dash and door panel inlays confirm Formula S status. A relative stripper with manual brakes and no A/C, this 904 Torqueflite equipped car has the column mounted shift lever instead of the console option we’d prefer to see. Better yet, fire up the time machine and make it a factory 4-speed stick.

Still surrounded by factory issue white engine bay paint, the special E-code 273 four-barrel retains the correct black wrinkle finned valve covers, single-plane iron intake manifold, Carter AFB, five-blade fan and heavy duty 22-inch radiator. Inside, the 273 4-barrel mill also packs a hotter 248-degree solid cam and 10.5 pistons to boost power to 235. The D-code 273 2-barrel had a milder 240-degree cam and 8.8 slugs to generate 180 horsepower. The Formula S was only available with 273 4-barrel or 280-horse 383 4-barrel power. The unsilenced air cleaner is correct, but should be chrome plated with a 273 Commando pie tin glued on top. Also missing is the specific 2-1/2 inch high flow single exhaust system with square-tipped resonator. But if you’ve ‘gotta start someplace, this hardtop has a ton of potential.
