V Gaines defeated Warren Johnson (6.674/206.42 to 6.658/207.88) and Jason Lines (6.692/206.01 to 6.718/207.46) to get to the Pro Stock semi-final round, where he met Dave Connolly and was eliminated.
Max Naylor didn’t qualify in his newly sponsored Reaction Graffix Stratus.
Justin Humphreys qualified at number 9 in Allen Johnson’s back up car. He met fellow Stratus driver Larry Morgan in the first round. Morgan and Humphreys came off the starting line together and were even at 660 feet. They ran side-by-side the rest of the way down the track, with Morgan just edging ahead at the finish line. Larry Morgan's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60-ft (0.001), 330-ft (-0.002), 660-ft( 0.000), 1,000-ft (0.001). Morgan’s margin of victory was 0.0023 seconds (approximately 8 inches).
Vinnie Deceglie, from Rancho Cucamonga, CA, made his first field by qualifying number 15, but was eliminated in the first round by Kurt Johnson.
