Matt Davis, from Ballground, GA, had the only Mopar entered in the ORSCA index classes and qualified his ’73 Duster 12th of 51 entries in the 7.0 class at Atlanta Dragway. Demonstrating just how tough it was to advance, Davis cut a perfect .000 reaction in this first-round launch, then ran 7.02 over the eighth mile at 96.32 mph, but still fell to Alabama’s Chris Smart.
The only other Mopar in competition at Atlanta Dragway was the turbocharged ’95 Avenger of Morganton, NC’s Mike Donnahue. After qualifying 9th in Limited Street, Donnahue made a 5.012-seconds bye run at 157.74 mph in the first round, then improved to a 4.956/158.32 pass, but eventual race winner Darrin Hoyle’s .010 light to Donnahue’s .067 proved just a little too much to overcome.
