Chis Cadotto qualified his 1997 Dodge Ram 18th in Heavy Street (3,500-pound minimum) with an 8.304 at 169.02 mph. The 588 Hemi-powered pick-up left just a little too soon in the opening round, however, sending Cadotto home early to Canton, MI.

Gino Bia’s hot-looking’72 Cuda almost made it into the Heavy Street field, but finished 35th with a 9.633/141.31 pass after two rounds of qualifying. The comely Cuda sports a blown Keith Black 525 c.i. Hemi under the hood.

Ray Claery came all the way down from Potomac, MD, with his 426 Hemi-powered ’63 Belvedere, but missed the first round of qualifying, then didn’t make it far off the line in his lone attempt, leaving him a disappointing 49th of 50 Heavy Street entries.

The Drag Radial class had 101 entrants with 99 cars recording times on the track. Wayne Smith of Ft. Pierce, FL, was 58th of those entries after his second and final qualifying pass. Smith managed an 8.796/166.91 combination with his 600 ci. Dodge-motored ’89 pick-up. Also attempting to make the Drag Radial field was Randy Billings, also racing out of Ft. Pierce with a 654 Mopar-motivated ’68 Valiant, who finished 54th on the list.

No word on who this hard-luck Plymouth pilot is since his name didn’t turn up on the run sheets after spilling his transmission all over the Orlando starting line in the first round of Heavy Street qualifying.
