Dave Raybourn driving his “Mean Fish” Barracuda squared off against the “Heli-Hemi” Dodge Dart of John Rains.  Rains took the win with his 8.884 to Raybourn’s shut off at mid-track with possible oil pressure problems when the car landed from the wheelstand.

Round two gave a bye run to Rains Dodge and pitted Michael Ogburn against Rick Houser.  Ogburn grabbed a red light (-0.004), but when Houser’s car returned to Earth it veered hard to the right kissing the guard wall and giving the win to Ogburn’s West Coast Hemi.

After the Semis, crewman Billy Westbrook assessed the damage to the California Car Duster-sponsored DeFrank and Sons ‘Cuda.  Houser thought there may be an issue with the torsion bar setup that caused the racecar to make a move to the right on both passes in the shootout.  The car should be ready to race again at the Pomona World Finals in November.

In the final of Ogburn versus John Rains, Rains left first but Ogburn came from behind to take the winner’s trophy with his 8.75/150.27 charge as Rains slowed to a 9.237.
