DARTING FROM HERE TO THERE
Geoff, Just wanted to correct you on your (Dec.) article. I currently own Al's old D/Dart. I bought it a little over 4 years ago prior to retiring from DCX and moving to Florida. The car was originally co-owned by Ted Spehar and Ralph Costa and raced as "The Politician." I also have another D/Dart that I bought back in 1998. Found that one in Hemmings. Per the VIN numbers that Galen has on file, Ted's car may have been the first LO23 produced by Chrysler.
Both my cars are shown on the D/Dart website. I also gave the site originator a lot of the tech stuff that I collected over the years. http://www.seriousviewers.com/D-Dart/ddart.htm
Anyways, just wanted to set the record straight.

STEVE, MEET GEOFF. TALK AMONGST YOURSELVES
Hello MoparMax. I had a friend tell me about the piece on Mopars with Big Daddy on this site. After reading some of the amusing comments from Steve Magnante I thought I would
enlighten you on a couple things. I’m the guy that owns the hemi sheet metal intake and Mopar valve covers in the article. The intake was made for Dr. Beshore with Charlie Westcott’s specs at Modern Cylinder Head in Michigan, ever hear of them? Dr. Beshorewent 8.87 at Indy, then 8.84 at the Dutch Classic in 2001. Slow by today’s standards but hardly junk. So, warning, not as bad as you thought. Would make a nice intake on someone’s clone car, that’s why it was for sale. The valve covers with the bumps was yes to clear the Dr's big valve springs. $250.00 was not out of line and I've sold several sets. I sold unmolested sets for $500.00.
In the future maybe you should consult Geoff Stunkard when commenting about someone’s race parts. He knows what he's looking at.

GUZZLER CHARGER RUMORS CONFIRMED
I can confirm the wadded up Guzzler Charger rumors. Indeed it was at Cordova that it met its demise. Local racer and camera bug Bruce Hesse shot this photo of the flipped Mopar at the World Series of Drag Racing in August 1965.
Unfortunately Bruce has passed, unable to get a story to go with the photo.

ALL IN THE FAMILY
I saw the article about the Mopar family (Wagons of Steel) and would like to say we have been racing Mopars since 1957 here in central Ohio. We still have one of our original racers, which was unbeaten in its class F/stock in 1959. It is a ‘37 Dodge coupe and is still in the same period race ready style it was in its final race in 1959 and is a Saturday night cruiser now. We also have the flathead Chrysler powered Willys (retired 1968), two ‘68 hemi Cudas, two ‘63 aluminum nose Dodges etc. Mopars have been good to us and we even make fiberglass parts for the 1962-68 Mopars.
Good to see an online Mopar mag.
