5. NHRA STOCK RACING IS A FAN FAVORITE. It's truly a big ego trip to be a part of the class. The fans are very devoted and they always make us glad that we showed up. It may be the closest that any of us will ever come to being a celebrity. My crew chief had to learn how to sign "Dr. Big Block" for autograph seekers!
6. ANY RACE CAR IS ONLY AS STRONG AS THE WEAKEST LINK. A little section of bad wiring, an old switch, a ring gear with too many runs on it, or even an old helmet or harness that won't pass tech can all end your day at the races prematurely. At the local bracket races, this is a major annoyance. At a Divisional or National event, it's heartbreaking! We try to keep a running list of the things that need to be addressed. A vigorous maintenance program is critical.

7. GETTING TO THE STARTING LINE IS A BIG DEAL. It's so important to remember just how hard it is to get a car together, put it on the trailer, get time off, gas up the tow rig, feed the crew and get to the starting line. It is 95% or more of the whole deal. Enjoy the moment. Have fun and be a nice person no matter what happens.
