Other drivers at the Cajun Mopar Hemi Challenge that were running good numbers were John Raines and Fred Henson. Both J.E.T.-prepared Darts were running good numbers in qualifying, but they both lost in early rounds. Raines’s car made a move towards the centerline and he had to lift, and Fred was a little tardy in the semis. Both drivers had great numbers out of their Darts and will be players come time for the U.S. Nationals in September.
Houma, Lousiana, had two drivers in the shootout, Jerry Caro in the Caro & Teuton Dart and Joe Teuton Jr. in the Teuton & Sons Barracuda. Even though neither won in round one, Joe Jr. would go on to march through a tough field of Super Stockers only to lose in the finals. Nice job, as these cars are really hard to run the regular eliminator.
Next stop for the Mopar Hemi Challenge will be at the U.S. Nationals, so the teams have a few months to get ready. It will be interesting to see what comes of this. New teams are coming out all the time and some of the old teams that have not made a showing this year at either of the challenges might really make a difference.
David Barton is now driving the Mohan-owned Cuda and hopefully will get his gremlins worked out as they were having two-step problems at Belle Rose. Jim Pancake will have a new bullet in his Dart. Teams like Hess and the EarthQuake double car team of the Wolkwitz brothers have shown good numbers on the east coast, but the bottom line is when you get them all at the same track that will be when you see the cream come to the top.
Next month we are going to look at SS/AH drivers going to divisional events to get grading points and see how they do. Joe Teuton Jr. and Fred Henson both show you can win with the Hemi cars in handicap racing.
Here are the current Mopar Hemi Challenge Stats.
